10km MS WALK with the 4-H Fitness 4-Health Team

On March 23-25th five representatives from the Essex County 4-H Leaders’ Association travelled to the Waterloo Inn & Conference Centre to attend the 4-H Ontario ‘Volunteer Conference & Annual Meeting (CAM). This year’s theme “The Future Looks Bright” was a perfect selection for a very positive, fun and active 4-H year in our county.

2012 Junior Beef Expo

Local Essex 4-H Members Cody and Brandon Rogers as well as Jackie Wismer participated in the 2012 Junior Beef Expo March 10th and 11th at the Western Fair Agriplex in London Ontario. There were over 250 head of cattle being shown by 4-H members from across Ontario.

his weeks meeting was our first at an actual fitness centre where we would be getting to know our professional fitness trainer Jen Moore, as well as a thing or two on how to exercise properly and get ourselves into shape. Of course before we got to the fun part of our meeting we first started off with measurements and weigh-in's privately with Jen, as well as getting a little business out of the way.

This year Spice Club kicked off at 1:50 pm with the 4H pledge. Mrs. Matthews then touched on a few kitchen safety and etiquette rules. Next the executives were nominated and elected: Emma L. as President, Jacob as Vice President, Joelle as Secretary, Darren as Treasurer and Mary-Evelyn as Press Reporter. Last to be discussed was an outline of this year’s activities.

Well, the North Mornington Church was busy with the sounds of a sewing machine, scissors, stitching, and laughter as the North Perth 4 H quilting club met for the second time on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the North Mornington Presbyterian Church. Then our two youth leaders, Meghan and Jennifer lead us in a game where we each pulled a piece of yarn. The pieces were different lengths.

The Essex County 4-H Leaders’ Association held its Annual General Meeting at Colosanti’s Tropical Garden’s in Ruthven on Wednesday, February 8th. 4-H Volunteers were treated by the Essex 4-H Association to a buffet dinner prior to the AGM in appreciate of all of their hard work and dedication to our members over the past year; special thanks goes to the amazing staff at Colosanti’s for their wonderful hospitality.

Ok, 14 girls is too many in one sewing club. Everyone learnt about buying fabric and showed their individual creativity and style while selecting the material for their club project. All members completed their Bodacious Bags by doing some long-arm machine quilting, machine sewing and hand stitching.

On Oct 19th we held a 4-H Art Club meeting at Mrs Kimberly and Mr Marshall's house in Leamington. We decorated shoeboxes for “Operation Christmas Child”. At the end of the meeting we had 25 colourful boxes completed. Members took home a box to fill

At the 4-H Halloween Party the "Grow it Big" Club had their achievement. Our achievement project was to grow a giant pumpkin from a seed that we planted last spring in a coffee can. Everyone had different experiences with their plants.
