Introduction

The Chatham-Kent 4-H Association has chosen Kayla Elliott to receive the Top 4-H female award for 2009. She is the daughter of Will and Jane Elliott from Highgate. Kayla is presently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program at the University of Guelph.
Kayla has been a very active 4-H member during the last ten years completing a variety of life skills and competitive clubs. She has held many executive positions in these clubs as well as being a youth leader.
Kayla has attended many of the Provincially offered opportunities for 4-H members such as Leadership Camp, Future Leaders In Action, and was chosen for a Royal Bank Inter-provincial Exchange.
Kayla strives to live up to the 4-H motto 'Learn To Do By Doing'. She volunteers at many of the 4-H functions and fundraisers. As youth leader, she helps plan meetings and works with younger members. She has shown sheep, goats, and swine at the Royal Winter Fair for the last nine years. In her ten years as a 4-H member, Kayla has won many awards. She recently received the Top Outstanding Agricultural award from the Ontario Plowmen's Association.
In the community, Kayla volunteers at Westover Treatment Centre; helped with Ridgetown Fair, and was on staff at Kenesserie Camp where she worked with disabled children for two years.
Kayla Elliott is an excellent example of a top 4-H member.

What's New

Howard Mutual Support Means New Location and New Activities for 4-H Rally Night Howard Mutual's generous donation of $1000.00 to the Chatham-Kent 4-H Association has helped to expand the Rally Night program. An exciting evening at the Carnival in the Rudy Brown Building at the Ridgetown Campus was held in early February!
The motto of the 4-H program is to "Learn To Do By Doing". 4-H in Chatham-Kent takes this to heart with a wealth of clubs available to build skills while having fun. Members can join clubs on a wide variety of topics from cropping and livestock to cooking, canoeing, woodworking, tractor restoration and many more. 4-H also offers other opportunities like activity days, leadership camps, scholarships and exchanges. The 4-H program serves youth ages 10 to 21. 4-H is always looking for volunteers - come take a look at the program!
The Rally program offered Carnival activities and a chance to take a look at all the clubs that are being offered in Chatham-Kent in 2010 followed by county awards and refreshments.

Kubota Cup Challenge Congratulations to Colbie Pinnsoneault, Champion Showperson and Mariet Wierengam, Reserve Champion Showperson!
The Highgate Fair hosted the Kubota Showmanship Challenge as the final part of the 4-H activities. The top two showman from each of the Dresden Beef, Kent Beef, Sheep and Rabbit clubs competed showing sheep, beef and rabbits. It was a closely contested competition with only 17 points separating the top showman from the bottom. The winners received beautiful silver belt buckles specially made for the competition. Kubota also presented the Grand Champion of the Dresden Beef and Kent Beef with Kubota leather jackets.
Thank you to Kubota for your generous donation. This allowed us to provide all participating members with 4-H/Kubota Jackets and Kubota hats. This also allowed us to host the Kubota Cup Challenge and purchase the belt buckles and a trophy. Thanks Again.
