4-H Ontario

2016 Message from the President

Over the past year the Board of Directors has had many opportunities to put our 4-H motto into action.

By sharing and living our 4-H stories, ensuring that people know the importance of 4-H in your lives and providing opportunities for 4-H youth to shine, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ontario 4-H Council agree that they are able to reach the goals set out.

The Board of Directors takes great care in ensuring that our finances are sound and just and that we finish with a positive balance at the end of the year. Yes we raised the 2017 membership fee—something that has not occurred over the past three years. Priorities continue to be looking at big picture goals, setting policy and ensuring financial stability.

No lottery in 2017? The Board of Directors determined that the lottery had run its course, and is looking at how they can work more closely with the Foundation to raise funds because we all support a vision where “4-H is Forever.”

A few personal highlights: 35th Anniversary Go For The Gold Championship game, the 4-H Canada LEAD Scholarship Dinner, board learning opportunities and every opportunity where I could meet and connect with the members.

Finally, we would do well to remember that we are all volunteers, whether we serve on the Board of Directors or facilitate at Provincial 4-H Leadership Camp or Future Leaders In Action, run a club or work with an Association. We are all working together for the benefit of the members, sharing our passion, our enthusiasm and our love of 4-H---—learning to do by doing each and every day.
